Synthesis and application of information for conservation
management relevant to marine SACs
Overview
Previous chapters have described current understanding of rocky shore
ecosystems, the main anthropogenic threats, the options for monitoring these systems and
the major areas which require study in order to improve our conservation efforts. This aim
of this chapter is to suggest an appropriate strategy for the management and study of
rocky shores within SACs. Before making these suggestions, we first consider the value of
rocky shore ecosystems from a conservation perspective. We also consider the practical
issues relating to study and management of these ecosystems.
