Submerged and partly submerged sea caves
Candidate SACs for caves: St.Kilda, Thanet
Coast, Flamborough Head, Papa Stour, Berwickshire
& North Northumberland Coast, Rathlin Island.
Caves are generally unsuitable areas for fishing
and are therefore unlikely to be damaged or deteriorate
as a result of fishing activity. There may however
be some potential for effects on species using these
areas. Grey seals haul out in intertidal caves and
use these sites for pupping. Disturbance is likely
to be the main threat to them in these situations.
No references were found on the effects of fishing
activity on this habitat.
