Potential effects of water-based recreation
This section looks at the potential effects
of water-based recreation on the marine environment in mSAC
areas. Specifically, it addresses the potential impacts arising
from the following sources:
- engine emissions
- sound emissions
- antifouling paint leaching
- sewage and other waste discharges
- disturbance to wildlife
- erosion and turbidity
Further information on water quality impacts
can be obtained from a related study of the UK Marine SACs Project
(Cole et al 1999).
